Woman, 80, dies in Wongawallan crash

Queensland Police are investigating a traffic crash at Wongawallan this morning, which resulted in the death of an 80-year-old woman.

Preliminary investigations indicate that at approximately 10am, the woman was driving a white 2016 Mitsubishi ASX along Tamborine Oxenford Road when her car crossed onto the wrong-side of the road and collided with a truck.

The truck-driver, a 28-year-old Mermaid Beach man, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Two passengers in the truck were not physically injured.

“The 80-year-old female driver of the car, from Arundel, sustained serious pelvic and leg injuries,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“She was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital where she was declared deceased this afternoon.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating. Anyone with information or relevant vision is urged to contact police.
