Queensland Police are investigating a fatal fire in a Newtown unit this morning in which an 80-year-old woman died.
Police say that at around 3.30am, emergency crews were called to a Gordon Avenue address following reports a blaze had broken out.
“An 80-year-old woman was later found deceased,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
“A 72-year-old man escaped and was transported to Toowoomba Hospital for medical assessment.”
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner, Police said.
