Woman, 62, “grossly intoxicated” in Plympton crash

A 62-year-old Glenelg North woman police have described as being “grossly intoxicated” has been treated in hospital following a crash at Plympton overnight.

Police say that just before 11.30pm last night, officers were called to a take-away restaurant on Anzac Highway after reports a car had crashed through a fence.

“On arrival, they located a Magna sedan, out the front of a group of units and damage to two parked vehicles,” SA Police said in a statement.

“Police spoke to 62-year-old woman who was driving the Magna, she appeared grossly intoxicated and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

“After speaking to witnesses, police established the woman driving the Magna had just left a nearby drive-thru bottle shop, hit the accelerator instead of the brake careering out of control through a fence to the next-door take-away seafood restaurant, collided with the permanent outdoor dining furniture, through another fence and then hit two parked cars.”

The Glenelg North woman was taken to Flinders Medical Centre for treatment to minor injuries.

Police say she is likely to face driving charges once results of a blood analysis are known.

The Magna was towed from the scene.
