Man charged over Townsville murder

Townsville detectives have charged a South Townsville man with the murder of a 52-year-old man in Mundingburra yesterday.

The 44-year-old South Townsville man has been charged with one count each of murder, possessing dangerous drugs and possess tainted property.

“At 5.15pm, police were called to a China Street address after an altercation between two men resulted in a 52-year-old receiving a serious wound,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“First aid was provided at the scene by police, before paramedics transported the man to the Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition.”

The man could not be revived on arrival at hospital and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

“A crime scene was established at the China Street address and investigations are continuing,” police said.

The charged man has been refused bail and will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow.
