Two men in their 70s are in hospital after a fiery two-vehicle crash on the Bribie Bridge this afternoon.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate that at around 12.20pm, a silver Mazda wagon with Queensland registration 075XAO was travelling eastbound when it crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided head-on with a red Kia wagon, with both cars bursting into flames shortly after impact.
The 74-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the Kia was transported to hospital in a serious condition.
The 46-year-old female driver and a 71-year-old male passenger of the Mazda were transported to hospital in a serious condition. A third male occupant of this vehicle left the scene before the arrival of emergency services and was last seen heading on foot towards Bribie Island.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokesman Jarred Thorne said eight crews were sent to the scene, including critical care paramedics.
“It was a two-vehicle accident head-on where the vehicles have been engulfed in flames,” he said.
“QPS were on scene and had dragged all patients away from the vehicles that were on fire.”
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash, the Mazda vehicle prior to the crash, or has any dash cam footage, to come forward.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.
