Queensland Police have charged a 13-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl after a 63-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted with a wooden plank before having her car stolen in Townsville last night.
Police say that at around 9.30pm on Tuesday, officers were called to a North Ward property following reports of a robbery and assault.
“It will be alleged a group had entered a property on The Strand, where a 63-year-old woman was assaulted with a wooden plank and a Toyota Rav 4 was stolen,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
The woman was transported to Townsville Hospital for treatment.
A short time later police observed the vehicle and followed it to an address at Vincent, where it is alleged the vehicle was driven at an unmarked police vehicle.
“A 13-year-old boy who was allegedly driving the vehicle and a 15-year-old female passenger, suffered minor injuries, and were taken to Townsville Hospital,” Police said.
“No police officers or other members of the public were injured in the incident.”
Both teenagers have been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and are expected to appear in the Townsville Childrens Court today.
Investigations remain ongoing and police appeal for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or other relevant footage to come forward.
