Two teenagers have been charged after being caught allegedly street racing in Sydney’s north west, reaching speeds of more than 140km/h in a 60km zone.
Police say that at around 10pm on Saturday, officers attached to The Hills Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting stationary speed enforcement on Windsor Road, Kellyville, when they detected a Hyundai Tucson and a Volkswagen Golf heading west, allegedly travelling at 142km/h in a 60km/h zone.
“Police stopped the Hyundai on Wrights Road, before the Volkswagen left the scene,” NSW Police said in a statement today.
“The driver of the Hyundai – a 17-year-old male – was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/h – lidar, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and street racing, organise, promote race between vehicles. His licence was immediately suspended.”
A short time later, police attended a home on Shuttle Parade at Schofields, and spoke to an 18-year-old man, the alleged driver of the Volkswagen.
He was issued with a Court Attendance Notice charged with class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/h – lidar, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and street racing, organise, promote race between vehicles.
His licence was immediately suspended, and his registration plates were seized for a period of three months.
Both drivers – who were both provisional licence holders – are due to appear before a children’s court and Parramatta Local Court on March 30.
