Tamworth tyre slasher to face court

A 54-year-old man has been charged after police allege he slashed the tyres more than 30 cars, causing $40,000 damage in Tamworth last month.

Police say that on Monday 27 September, officers from Oxley Police District commenced an investigation after receiving information that the tyres of 17 vehicles from a car yard in Marius Street had been slashed.

“Officers received further information that 15 company cars in Peel Street also sustained similar damage while parked there between Saturday 25 September and Sunday 26 September 2021,” NSW Police said today.

Police say the estimated value of the damage was $41,000. Last month, police released CCTV (pictured) of the alleged offender to the public in the hope of identifying the man.

“Just before 3pm yesterday, officers from the Gunnedah Proactive Crime Team and Tamworth General Duties executed a search warrant at a unit in Bourke Street, Tamworth and arrested a 54-year-old man.”

He was refused bail and will appear in Tamworth Local Court today.
