Son charged with murder of parents in crime that shocked sleepy NSW town

A 46-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder following the death of his parents in the quiet NSW central tablelands town of Oberon last week.

Police say that at around 7.15am on Friday, August 13, emergency services were called to a home on On Avon Avenue, following concerns about the welfare of the home’s occupants.

“Officers from Chifley Police District attended and found the bodies of a 68-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths commenced.

“Following inquiries, officers from Nepean Police Area Command and Nepean Highway Patrol arrested a 46-year-old man on Jack William Drive, Penrith, about 8.50am the same day.”

The man, believed to be the son of the murdered couple, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for hand injuries before being taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard.

He was released yesterday and taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with two counts of murder (DV).

The man was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to raise funds for the couple’s remaining children to help cover funeral costs. So far close to $12,000 has been raised.
