Upgrades at the Roxborough Park Rose Garden in Baulkham Hills are now complete, with visitors to the popular garden now able to enjoy a more modern and accessible facility.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi, celebrated the milestone with a ribbon cutting ceremony late last week. The project was completed by Council staff and contractors over stages, across a two-year period.
Mayor Gangemi thanked the Australian Government for its contribution to the much-loved flower garden, which is home to more than 4,000 roses from 80 different species, including the Australian Bi-Centennial Rose, The Hills Shire Council Rose and the Olympic Gold Rose.
“The Roxborough Park Rose Garden is one of the most treasured facilities in the Shire, so this is a fantastic outcome that has been achieved by two levels of government working together for the benefit of this community,” Mayor Gangemi said.
“The rose garden has never looked better, and the upgrades make the facility more accessible – allowing even more people to visit this wonderful location.
“I encourage residents and visitors to come and see the garden as it shows off its final blooms before the winter season,” the Mayor said.
Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke said part of the project was funded under the Australia Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, with upgrades made to stairs, pathways and the park’s border edging, as well as new irrigation and park furniture.
Council contributed $854,299 to the project to build a new rose arbour and a feature sandstone area. Work also included the restoration of the onsite fountain and the reinstatement of roses, which were removed and retained in pots during the initial stage of works for their preservation.

“It is wonderful that the LRCI Australian Government funding has been utilised for the restoration and upgrade of the Rose Garden, an iconic centrepiece in the Hills District. People come from far and wide to visit the beautiful garden and surrounds, and future generations will benefit from these upgrades,” Mr Hawke said.

Visitors can find Roxborough Park Rose Garden at the corner of Roxborough Park Road and Mileham Avenue in Baulkham Hills.
