Police were called to ‘disturbance’ prior to Ipswich blaze

Ipswich detectives have declared a crime scene at the charred remains of a Collingwood Park house after two bodies were found inside following a blaze in the early hours of the this morning.

Police say that just before 1am, emergency services were called to a Hannant Street residence after initial reports of a disturbance and found the lower level of a two-storey house alight.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and the bodies of two people, believed to be a 68-year-old woman and her 73-year-old husband, the only occupants, were located inside the home,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“An autopsy is yet to take place to formally identify the pair and determine the cause of their death.”

Neighbours have confirmed that the home belonged to real estate agent, Joe, 73, and partner Christine Stephan, 68 (pictured).

No domestic violence orders were in place however police are investigating if this was a factor in the deaths, Queensland Police said.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation, and the relationship between the pair, is urged to contact police.
