Police seize $700,000 cash in ‘no seatbelt’ vehicle stop

A man will face court today charged after police seized more than $700,000 cash after pulling him over for not wearing a seatbelt in Sydney’s north-west overnight.

Just before 8.30pm last night, officers from The Hills Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting patrols of the Bella Vista area, when they spotted a driver not wearing a seatbelt.

“Police stopped the Toyota Camry on Circa Boulevarde and spoke to the unrestrained driver,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located $75,000 concealed in the boot and secreted under the rear seat.”

The man was arrested and taken to Castle Hill Police Station.

“As part of inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a serviced apartment at Bella Vista, where a further $650,000 was seized.”

The Queensland man was subsequently charged with knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
