Police seek car following Gympie shops blaze

Queensland Police have declared a crime scene this morning after several shops were damaged by fire in Gympie overnight.

Police say they were patrolling Mary Street at 12.30am when they saw a fire inside a tobacconist.

“Officers called for assistance from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, however the flames spread quickly to two neighbouring businesses,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

The fire caused a series of explosions from within the tobacconist store and affected power to the area.

“Police are attempting to identify the driver and passenger of a white 2010 Toyota Aurion sedan, seen in the area at the time, as they may be able to assist with enquiries.”

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the vehicle or any persons near the shopping strip at the time, or who may have relevant CCTV footage, to contact them.”

No one was physically injured in the fire.
