Police bitten, kicked in head in Townsville attack

Police are appealing for information from the community in relation to the assault of two police officers at North Ward yesterday.

Police were responding to a disturbance at the intersection of Gregory Street and The Strand (pictured) at around 11am when the alleged incident took place.

“It is alleged a 28-year-old man has bitten a QPS officer resulting in the officer being transported to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

The man is also alleged to have kicked the other attending police officer in the head.

Police arrested the 28-year-old man who remains in custody.

“Numerous members of the public were observed to have filmed the incident on mobile phones. Detectives are requesting anyone with recordings or CCTV vision of the incident to contact police.”
