Police appeal for further victims in Gympie rape case

Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) detectives are appealing to the public for further information as investigations continue into the rape and serious assault of a woman in Amamoor.

Police allege a man physically and sexually assaulted a woman, known to him, in October at a property where they both live, in separate dwellings.

A 45-year-old Amamoor man has been charged with rape, attempted rape and serious assault of person over 60. He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Gympie Magistrates Court on 19 January 2026.

Gympie CIB Officer in Charge, Detective Acting Sergeant Kiel Duggen said detectives are appealing for further victims.

“Further investigations have indicated that the man may have been propositioning other woman, who have previously resided at the property,” Detective Acting Sergeant Duggen said.

“We reasonably believe there may be more people that have been the victims alleged sexual offences committed by the man, and not reported it to police.

“We are urging anyone who may have been a victim of this man to contact police.

“There are multiple ways to report what has happened, depending on your situation.

“Please be assured that we’ll treat you and your story with sensitivity, dignity and respect.”
