Pedestrian, 73, killed in Northgate

Queensland Police have charged a driver after a 73-year-old man was killed after being struck by a car in Northgate this morning.

Police say that at around 5.30am, officers were called to Melton Road near Dethridge Street following reports a man was trapped under a car.

“A 73-year-old Northgate man, the pedestrian, died at the scene,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“A 23-year-old Nundah man, the driver and soul occupant of the vehicle, has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.”

He will appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on March 19. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
