Pedestrian, 71, critical after Grafton crash

A 71-year-old man remains in a critical condition after being hit by a car in the state’s north last night.

Police say that just before 8pm on Saturday, emergency services responded to reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in Grafton.

“Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and were told an elderly man was crossing Oliver Street, near the intersection of Mary Street, when he was struck,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The 71-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious head injuries and taken to Grafton Base Hospital. He was later airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.”

The driver of the vehicle – a 58-year-old woman – was uninjured and taken to Grafton Base Hospital for mandatory testing. She is assisting police with inquiries.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
