A woman who allegedly carjacked a 74-year-old woman in Hamlyn Heights last night was physically restrained by passersby until Police arrived on the scene.
Investigators have been told a 74-year-old woman was in her car at traffic lights at the intersection of Shannon Avenue and Church Street about 5.15pm when a woman approached the car and threatened the victim with a knife.
“The victim got out of her car at the direction of the woman who then got into the vehicle but was unable to drive it away,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
Several witnesses rushed to assist the victim and removed the alleged offender from the car and held her until officers arrived, Police said.
A 27-year-old woman from Norlane has been charged with aggravated carjacking and has been remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court later today.
