NSW has reported two new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 and a further 10 cases in returned travellers in hotel quarantine in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
NSW Health said of the 12 new cases, 10 were acquired overseas while the two locally acquired cases were linked to the Oran Park cluster.
“The two new locally acquired cases are household contacts of previously reported cases linked to the Oran Park community cluster. They have been in isolation,” Now Health said.
There are now 25 cases linked to the Oran Park cluster.
Meanwhile NSW Health said members of the Bathurst community had responded well to calls for testing, and subsequently no cases have been detected in the Bathurst community or in those people associated with the Bathurst 1000 following the detection of traces of the virus in local sewage.
It said repeat sewage samples taken in Bathurst last Thursday had shown no further evidence of the virus.
“Ongoing sampling in Bathurst and other communities around NSW will continue to assist in detecting evidence of infection across the state,” the health department said.
“Sewage testing for genetic material of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, started in July, adding another tool in the fight against the pandemic.”
NSW Health is continuing to appeal to the community to be tested right away if anyone has even the mildest of symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, fever or other symptoms that could signal COVID-19.
“This is vital to ensuring NSW continues to detect cases as soon as possible and prevent onward transmission.”
There are more than 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW. To find your nearest clinic visit COVID-19 testing clinics or contact your GP.
