NCA bomber dies in jail

Convicted National Crime Authority bomber, Domenic Perre, 65, has died in prison, just months after being found guilty of the 1994 Adelaide parcel bomb attack.

Mr Perre had been awaiting a decision on his appeal when he died.

He was seeking to have the guilty verdicts of murder and attempted murder overturned due to what he said was a lack of direct evidence linking him to the bomb.

The parcel explosive device, addressed to Detective Sergeant Geoffrey Bowen, detonated on the 12th floor of the National Crime Authority offices.

Detective Bowen died from horrific injuries when the parcel bomb exploded in his office. Lawyer, Peter Wallis, who was nearby when the parcel detonated, was seriously injured.

Supreme Court Judge, Justice Kevin Nicholson last year found Mr Perre had sent the parcel bomb in revenge over the police officer’s investigation into the Perre family’s drug business.
