Motorcyclist caught doing 234km/h in 80km zone

Cardinia Highway Patrol have impounded a motorbike after a rider was detected travelling at 234km/h in an 80km zone in Springvale.

The motorbike was first spotted by police on the Princes Highway performing a ‘mono’ just after 1.35am.

Police attempted to intercept the motorbike, but it failed to stop and sped away towards Springvale junction.

The motorbike was followed by police, with the assistance of the police Air Wing, through several suburbs to an address in Hampton Park.

The 24-year-old Hampton Park man was subsequently arrested by the Dandenong Frontline Tactical Unit and taken to a local police station.

He is expected to be charged with dangerous driving whilst being pursued, reckless conduct endangering life, drive at a speed dangerous and exceeding the speed limit.

The motorbike was impounded for 30 days, at a cost of $1038.

Cardinia Highway Patrol Sergeant Paul Holtzinger said although the holiday period may be over, we’re still committed to ensuring dangerous drivers are taken off our roads.

“Our highway patrol and supporting units remain committed to ensuring these high risk and dangerous road users are identified and removed from our roads,” Sgt Holtzinger said.

“I’m thankful this incident didn’t end with us having to turn up and knock on a loved one’s front door.”
