Mornington Peninsula council seeks feedback on volunteering in Shire

Mornington Peninsula Shire Council is seeking your feedback about how individuals and services can better access volunteering roles and volunteers.

“We want to know what resources are readily used to find out about volunteering in our community and how community organisations are finding their volunteers?” Council said in a statement.

“We hope to provide better opportunities for both volunteers and community organisations to boost the recovery of the sector after COVID.

“Our research has shown that many community organisations, especially those working with older age groups have experienced a large decline in volunteers.”

Council’s community consultation will close on August 27.

“Volunteering is an important service on our Peninsula, we want our community to feel safe and happy to return to volunteering work and easily find the right opportunity for them,” said Mayor Despi O’Connor.

“Your feedback will be used to inform the future direction of our volunteering opportunities.

“There are many reasons to volunteer. For some it offers the chance to give something back to their community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Volunteering also benefits our mental health through building new friendships with like-minded people.”
