Moree pair charged over drugs, cash and opals seizure

A 54-year-old man and 37-year-old woman will face court today after police seized drugs and over $12,000 cash during a vehicle search in the state’s north yesterday.

Police say that at around 4pm on Tuesday, officers attached to New England Police District were patrolling Moree when they stopped to speak with the occupants of a Ford Ranger, parked at the intersection of Frome and Adelaide Streets.

“As officers approached the Ford, a woman – wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant – was seen leaving a nearby shop. The 37-year-old was arrested,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Police spoke to the driver – a 54-year-old man and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized, over $12,000 cash, white substance believed to be methylamphetamine and cocaine, two mobile phones and large amount of opal gemstones.”

The man was also arrested and they were both taken to Moree Police Station.

He was charged with supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

She as charged with the outstanding warrant for dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Both were refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today.
