Men rescued from overturned boat

An 85-year-old man has been rescued from an overturned boat in the Myall River at Tea Gardens this afternoon.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to reports of a capsized boat on the river at around 2pm.

“Apparently two males were thrown into the water when their boat flipped and had made their way to mangroves,” the Westpac crew said in a statement.

The Westpac helicopter’s critical care paramedic was winched in to assist the 85-year-old man, who was suffering from exhaustion.

“He was winched from the mangroves and airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition for further assessment.”

“The second occupant, age unknown, was helped ashore by NSW Police and was assessed by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and is believed to be in a satisfactory condition.”
