Man wanted over violent Rockhampton robbery

Queensland Police are appealing for public assistance after a child and elderly woman were injured during a robbery in Rockhampton on Sunday morning.

Police say that at around 7.30am, police were called to a hotel on George street after reports a man had stolen a vehicle from the hotel carpark.

“The man approached the 8-year-old child who was placing items into the vehicle’s boot, pushing the child to the ground and taking the keys,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“The elderly woman attempted to intervene and became involved in a struggle with the man before the vehicle was stolen and driven the wrong way down George Street.

“The child and woman were taken to hospital for treatment of shock and minor injuries.”

Police say the vehicle was located damaged this morning at Beasley Street, Frenchville.  

The man is described as Aboriginal in appearance, mid 20’s, approximately 158cm tall with a proportionate build. He has long black curly hair and brown eyes.

“He may be in the company of a woman, described as Aboriginal in appearance, mid 20s, approximately 160cm tall with a proportionate build. She has long black hair and brown eyes.”

“Anyone with information of their whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately,” Police said.

Anyone who may have seen the vehicle, a White 2017 Hyandai Tuscon – Queensland registration 739XKJ,  being driven from the scene or across Rockhampton over the weekend is urged to contact police with or without dashcam vision.
