Man dies in hospital after being found with head injuries

A 54-year-old man has died in hospital after being located with serious head injuries on the state’s far north coast at the weekend.

Police say emergency crews responded to Holden Lane in Ballina, about 5pm on Saturday, after reports a man had been found unconscious.

“NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the 54-year-old man for serious head injuries. He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a critical condition; however, died yesterday,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

“Officers from Richmond Police District – assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – have established Strike Force Bolar to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and how he came to be injured.”

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”

As inquiries continue, investigators are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from Holden Lane, Tamar Street or Martin Street between 12-midday and 5pm on Saturday 5 February to contact Ballina Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
