Man charged with murder of 61-year-old in alleged road rage incident

A man will appear in court today charged with murder following the death of a 61-year-old man after an alleged assault on the state’s north coast overnight.

Police say that just before 7pm on Wednesday, emergency services were called to Albert Harrower Crescent at South West Rocks.

“A 61-year-old man was located near the roadway with serious head injuries,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

“He was treated at the scene by police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.”

Police say the two men – who were not known to each other – had reportedly been involved in a road rage incident prior to the altercation.

“A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police, and officers from Mid North Coast Police District commenced an investigation.”

“A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Kempsey Police Station, where he was charged with murder,” police said.

He was refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court later today. Police say their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
