A man has been charged after a dog died following a house fire in Merrylands last week.
Police say that at around 10pm on Friday, 18 February, emergency services were called to a home on Crossland Street in Merrylands, following reports of a house fire.
“Fire and Rescue NSW officers extinguished the blaze a short time later; however, extensive damage was caused to the premises,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The resident of the house was not at the location at the time of the fire; however, a dog was located deceased inside the premises.”
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which was forensically examined.
Following inquiries, at around 8pm yesterday, a 30-year-old man was arrested in South Granville.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment before being taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with damage property by fire/explosion and commit an act of cruelty upon an animal.
The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
