Man charged over stabbing of woman, 67

A man will face court today charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a 67-year-old woman in Sydney’s south yesterday.

Police say that at around 7.20pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to Roosevelt Avenue in Riverwood, following reports a woman had been assaulted and stabbed.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 67-year-old woman suffering multiple stab wounds to her torso and back,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

“Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the woman died at the scene.

“Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command established a crime scene and with assistance from the South West Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group (OSG) and Dog Unit, commenced a search of the area.”

A short time later, officers arrested a 24-year-old man at a nearby home on Kentucky Road in Riverwood, where a second crime scene was then established, Police said.

The man was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today.
