Man charged over alleged sex assault of aged care resident, 90

NSW Police Sex Crime Squad detectives have charged a man with the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman at an aged care facility on the Central Coast.

Police say an unknown man broke into a facility in Bateau Bay around 12.40am on Wednesday, November 15th, where he allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted a 90-year-old woman.

The woman was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

“About 9.20pm on Friday 17 November 2023, strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – executed a search warrant at an address in The Entrance,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“During the search, police located electronics, sim cards and clothing relevant to their investigation. The items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.

“Following further inquiries, about 7.30pm yesterday strike force detectives – with assistance from Tuggerah Lakes Police District, Lake Macquarie Police District, Regional Enforcement Squad, and Police Transport Command – attended a home in Caves Beach where a 34-year-old man was arrested after attempting to flee from police.”

He was taken to hospital for minor injuries to his arm.

After being released from hospital, the man was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break & enter & commit serious indictable offence-use violence, inflict actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with victim, aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent, and aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm on victim.

The man was refused bail to appear before Belmont Local Court today.
