Man charged over Illawarra stabbing

A man will appear in court today charged over the stabbing of a 51-year-old man in the Illawarra this morning.

Police say that at about 6.15am, officers were called to a home on Birch Street, East Corrimal, after reports a man had been injured after an altercation with a man.

“Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and found a 51-year-old man suffering multiple stab wounds to his back,” NSW Police said in a statement.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.
