Man charged over fatal Pindi Pindi crash

Forensic Crash Unit investigators have charged a man following a three vehicle crash in Pindi Pindi that killed a 60-year-old Oonoonba man in July.

Police say that at around 2.35pm on July 16, a white Holden ute travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway, crossed onto the opposite side of the road and collided with a black Ford ute.

“Police and emergency services attended, however the driver of the Ford, a 60-year-old Oonoonba man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 19-year-old male passenger was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital and treated for serious leg injuries,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

The driver of the Holden, a Cannonvale man, was also transported to the Mackay Base Hospital and treated for serious leg and shoulder injuries.

A second car travelling southbound was also involved in the crash. The 47-year-old male driver of that vehicle, a Toyota SUV, was not seriously injured, Police said.

Yesterday investigators charged a now 33-year-old Cannonvale man with one count each of dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, possession of dangerous drug (cannabis), possession of drug utensil (pipe) and driving whilst relevant drug in his blood.

He is due to appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court on December 7.
