Man charged over body found at Wollongong train station

A man has been arrested as NSW Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body at Wollongong train station this morning.

Police say officers attached to Wollongong Police District were called Station Street at around 7.20am, where the body of a man was located inside the station’s multi-level carpark.

While he has yet to be formally identified, police believe he is a local man aged 68. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to determine cause of death and confirm identity.

“Officers established a crime scene while detectives from Wollongong PD commenced inquiries, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“About 10:40am, Police arrested a 37-year-old man. He has been taken to Wollongong Police Station as inquiries continue.”
