A man will face court after allegedly shooting a cat while spotlighting on a property in the state’s Murray River region earlier this year.
Police say that at around 11pm on Thursday 1 April, a 61-year-old man was at his rural property on Coldwells Road, Barooga with his wife, when the pair noticed a vehicle in their driveway.
“The vehicle continued to the rear sheds, where the property owner observed a spotlight being used, before hearing two shots fired,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The owner located the family cat deceased two days later, as a result of being shot.”
Officers attached to Murray River Police District’s Rural Crime Prevention Team were notified and commenced an investigation.
As a results of police inquiries, a 47-year-old man attended Mulwala Police Station yesterday morning. He was arrested and charged with fire firearm onto inclosed lands, and unlawfully enter inclosed agricultural land – possess/discharge firearm.
The Yarrawonga man was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear in Corowa Local Court on Wednesday, November 11.
