A 55-year-old man has been charged after allegedly attempting to stab a 58-year-old man at a residence in Allenstown on Saturday evening.
Police allege that at around 6.50pm on October 17, a man was sitting on the verandah at a home on West Street when another man who was unknown to him entered the front yard.
The man approached the verandah and asked the 58-year-old for directions and the resident replied before turning away to walk back upstairs.
It is further alleged the male resident then turned around and saw the man, armed with a knife, attempting to stab him.
The man managed to block the knife a number of times before he punched the man, causing him to fall backwards down the stairs.
Police attended the scene a short time later and located a 55-year-old man with a head injury at the bottom of the stairs. He was transported to hospital for further treatment.
A 55-year-old Rockhampton man has since been charged with acts intended to maim and is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
