Man charged over Alfredton hit-and-run

Victorian Policed have charged a man following an alleged hit-run collision in Alfredton yesterday morning that has left an 86-year-old man fighting for life in hospital.

Police arrested the 30-year-old driver at his home address about 2.20pm yesterday.

“Investigators charged the Wendouree man with negligently cause serious injury, dangerous driving causing serious injury, drive whilst disqualified, fail to stop at the scene of an accident and fail to render assistance,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

He was remanded to appear in Ballarat Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

“The charges come after two cars collided at the intersection of Leopold Road and Longley Street about 11.30am. The driver of one of the vehicles allegedly fled the scene on foot,” Police said.

The sole occupant of the second vehicle, an 86-year-old Alfredton man, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
