A man is due in court today, charged after an 89-year-old woman woke to find an intruder in her home in West Tamworth on Sunday night.
Officers from Oxley Police District were called to Cossa Street shortly before 6.30am yesterday, after an elderly woman reported a man had entered her bedroom. She screamed and the man ran away, NSW Police said in a statement today.
“Police established a crime scene and conducted a comprehensive canvass of the area, with Scene of Crime Officers examining the location,” NSW Police said.
“Following inquiries, a 23-year-old man was arrested at a home on Sue Crescent about 4pm and was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there, and break and enter house etc steal.”
The man has been refused bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court later today.
Police say a number of items have been recovered and are undergoing forensic examination.
