Man arrested over alleged carjacking during test drive

Queensland Police have charged a 32-year-old man who they say pushed a 65-year-old car salesman out of a vehicle before taking off in the car during a test drive in Highland Park yesterday.

Police allege that at around 2pm on Monday, the man took a car for a test drive with a salesperson from a Hinkler Drive dealership.

“A short time later, the salesperson pulled over on McKenzie Drive to show the man some features of the vehicle at which time the man allegedly pushed him out of the vehicle and drove off,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“The 65-year-old male salesperson was not physically injured in the incident.”

Police located the vehicle abandoned and undamaged in an underground carpark in Tugun at around 2.30am this morning.

Following further investigations, police located and arrested a 32-year-old Robina man at a location along Waterways Drive in Coomera at around 11am.

He has been charged with one count each of robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, uttering and possess utensils as well as two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.

He is expected to appear at Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
