WA Police detectives from the Special Crime Squad have arrested and charged a 46-year-old man over a historic attempted aggravated armed robbery that occurred at a home in Rockingham back in 2011.
Police say that at around 9pm on 19 June 2011, the victim – a female who was in her 50s at the time – was at home when a man wearing a balaclava forced his way inside.
“It will be further alleged the man – who was armed with a machete – threatened the woman, before assaulting her and leaving the home,” WA Police said today.
“The man is not known to the woman and the investigation at the time failed to identify a suspect.”
Almost 12 years later, detectives from the Special Crime Squad recently re-examined an item of interest with new forensic technology, which showed a positive match for the 46-year-old man.
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
