Man, 82, airlifted from Cessnock crash

An 82-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital following a road accident in Cessnock this morning.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by Ambulance NSW at around 8.30am following reports of a serious two vehicle collision within the township.

“It was reported from scene that the occupants of the vehicle were trapped suffering serious injuries,” the Westpac Rescue Helicopter communications team said in a statement.

“Local Ambulance Paramedic and Emergency Services attended the location and commenced treatment and extraction of the occupants.

“Upon arrival of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Critical Care Medical Team commenced treatment of an 82-year-old male suffering serious chest injuries.”

Once extracted from the wreckage, the man was stabilised by the Critical Care Medical Team prior to being flown direct to the John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle where he remains in a serious condition.
