A 78-year-old man has been caught driving at 50 km/h over the speed limit at Guluguba in the Western Downs.
Chinchilla Police recorded the man’s Ford Territory on mobile radar travelling along the Leichardt Highway at 150km/h in a 100km/h zone just before 6pm on Saturday.
He was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h, worth $1,854 and will lose eight demerit points.
Sergeant Isaiah Reich reminded motorists that arriving home late, is better than not arriving at all.
“It is not just your life that you are putting at risk, travelling at those kinds of speeds endangers the lives of every other person on the road,” Sergeant Reich said.
“Driving at a high speed reduces your reaction time and ability to stop quickly, and there can be catastrophic consequences as a result.”
