Man, 61, charged with six-year reign of abuse

A 61-year-old Greystanes man has been charged over the alleged historical sexual abuse of a young girl in Sydney’s west.

“In June last year, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a young girl had been sexually abused by a man known to her,” NSW Police said in a statement this morning.

“Following extensive inquiries, a 61-year-old man was arrested at a home in Greystanes about 9.30am on Thursday 12 August.”

He was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with four counts of indecent assault person under 16 years of age, and one count of sexual intercourse with person under the age of 10 years.

Police will allege in court that the girl – then aged between three and eight – was sexually abused on several occasions by the man between 2009 and 2014.

The man appeared at Burwood Local Court the same day, where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
