Man, 55, extradited over high-flying drug ring

NSW Police Organised Crime Squad detectives are set to extradite a 55-year-old man from the Gold Coast to Sydney following an investigation into an alleged drug supply ring using private planes to transport illegal substances around Australia.

Strike Force Maimura detectives yesterday executed a search warrant at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, where they arrested the 55-year-old man.

He was taken to Southport Police Station where the NSW arrest warrant was executed.

Strike Force Maimura is a joint investigation between the NSW Police State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad and the NSW Crime Commission – with assistance from the Australian Federal Police, Western Australia Police and Queensland Police – which identified a criminal group allegedly involved in drug supply across Australia using private planes and encrypted devices (DECCDs).

Police say their inquiries are ongoing.
