Queensland Police have charged a 52-year-old man with arson following investigations into a fire that came close to destroying his home on Russell Island last night.
It will be alleged by Police that the man set his residence on fire at around 7.15pm, before hiding in nearby bushland.
“Responding police and emergency services extinguish the blaze at the Waterlea Street address and searched the residence in an attempt to locate the man,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
“A crime scene was declared, and the fire was deemed suspicious with the house was extensively damaged.”
Police say the man was located in nearby bushland and was subsequently taken into custody.
No one was injured during the incident.
The man is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, Saturday, 27 September.
