Man, 50, charged over drug haul

A 50-year-old man has been charged after police seized around $40,000 worth of illicit drugs and more than $7,000 cash in Melbourne West yesterday.

Officers were patrolling Spencer Street when they noticed the man acting suspiciously about 3.30pm, Victoria Police said in a statement today.

“A search of the man and his possessions located quantities of alleged methylamphetamine, ketamine, heroin, GHB, prescription medication and over $2,000 cash and other drug-related paraphernalia.”

“The 50-year-old Melbourne West man was arrested. A search warrant was subsequently executed at a Spencer Street address where cannabis and a further $5,000 was located.”

The man was charged with several offences including trafficking and possession of methylamphetamine, ketamine, heroin, GHB, possession of prescription medication without a prescription, dealing with property suspected proceeds of crime and hinder police.

The man was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 5 May, 2022.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $40,000, Police said.
