Koroit Irish Festival to get permanent stage

Construction of a permanent stage at Koroit’s Village Green is due to commence next week, as a part of a partnership project between Moyne Shire Council and the Koroit Irish Festival.

The stage forms part of the Koroit Streetscape Project, with Council allocating $100,000 from the State Government’s Outdoor Activation Fund to the build. The Koroit Irish Festival contributed a further $70,000 towards the project.

The stage, which will be managed and maintained by Council, will include an all-access ramp, storage space for event equipment and an accessible path linking the stage to a car park area.

Mayor of the Moyne Shire, Ian Smith said the Village Green Stage is due to be completed by the end of August and is an exciting new addition for the community.

“Council is delighted to have partnered with the Koroit Irish Festival on this community-led project and we hope the community will embrace the new facility to hold gatherings and run local events,” he said.

“The addition of a permanent stage in Koroit will open up new entertainment and tourism
opportunities, as well as a space that locals can enjoy for years to come.”

Peter McDonald from the Koroit Irish Festival said that after an extensive community consultation process, the festival committee and local community groups were eager for works to start.

“The Koroit Irish Festival is an important cultural event for the town and we’re very excited to have a permanent stage where locals can come together not only for the festival, but to host and attend other community-run events,” he said.

“The past couple of years have made us realise the importance of events in connecting us all and bringing family, friends and neighbours together to enjoy great local entertainment.”
