Detectives from Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 67-year-old Mackay man earlier this month.
John Patrick Hackett was located at his unit on Gold Street at Mackay around 7.18pm on Saturday, November 9th following a welfare check by family members.
A crime scene was declared, and police have launched a homicide investigation after receiving additional information including results from a post mortem examination indicating evidence of an assault.
“An Investigation Centre has been established under Operation Whiskey Glen,” Queensland Police confirmed today.
“Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have observed any interaction or altercation between John Patrick Hackett and another person on the afternoon or evening Tuesday November 5.”
Anyone who may have information, CCTV or dashcam footage, particularly within the vicinity of Gold Street on November 5, is urged to contact police.
