A 74-year-old former teacher has been charged following an investigation into alleged sexual abuse offences in the state’s Riverina region more than three decades ago.
“In July 2021, detectives from Riverina Police District commenced an investigation after reports three male students, then aged between 14 and 16, were allegedly sexually abused by a teacher at a school in Wagga Wagga, between 1984 and 1990,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Following inquiries, officers attended a home on McMaster Avenue, Lavington yesterday and spoke with a 74-year-old man.”
He was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of sexual assault – assault and indecent act, and seven counts of sexual assault – indecent assault person under 16 under authority.
The Lavington man was granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on September 20.
