Queensland Police have detained eight teenagers after a 50-year-old Pacific Pines woman was allegedly assaulted and her car stolen by a group of young people on the Gold Coast yesterday.
Police say that at around 4am on Sunday, the woman was assaulted and her Toyota Corolla vehicle stolen at Ainsley Avenue at Ashmore.
“It will be alleged police observed the stolen Toyota Corolla travelling in the vicinity of Logan at approximately 3.50pm yesterday afternoon,” Queensland Police said in a statement today.
“PolAir was able to monitor the vehicle’s movements as it travelled towards Richlands.
“At approximately 4.30pm, the vehicle came to a stop outside a train station at Richlands where five teenagers exited on foot. They were taken in to police custody shortly after.
“Around 4.40pm the vehicle was observed to attend an address at Inala where two girls exited the vehicle. Police attended the address and took the girls into custody.”
Police continued to track the vehicle as it continued travelling towards Logan.
“Just after 5pm, a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed along Johnson Road in Hilcrest,” Police said.
“The car continued travelling before being dumped on Lawson Street at Woodridge.”
The driver left the scene on foot, and was arrested by Police at a nearby address shortly after.
