Driver charged after hitting multiple cars during pursuit

A 50-year-old man has been arrested after crashing into parked cars during a pursuit with police in Sydney’s Inner West last night.

Police say that at around 9.40pm, officers from Inner West Police Area Command were patrolling Dulwich Hill, when they attempted to speak to the driver of a Volkswagen Polo, stopped at the intersection of New Canterbury and Constitution Roads.

“The Volkswagen drove off, turning right into Constitution Road, before colliding with a parked Mazda CX9,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

“The driver failed to stop and at the intersection of Denison Road, collided with a parked Mazda 3.

“A pursuit was initiated, and the Volkswagen turned right into Grove Street, before colliding with a trailer, forcing it into a parked Mercedes.”

Police say the Volkswagen continued driving, hitting three other parked vehicles and a motorbike.

“At the intersection of Grove and Hill Streets, the Volkswagen hit a parked Subaru Outback, with both vehicles hitting the brick fence of a home on Grove Street, stopping in the front yard.”

Police went to the driver’s aid and with the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance, he was removed from the vehicle.

The 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment where he remains under police guard. Police say he also underwent blood and urine testing.
